The Gin & Tonic was introduced by the army of the British East India Company. Malaria was a problem in India but a doctor discovered that quinine helped prevent and fight the disease. It was decided that quinine would be added to tonic water and since soldiers in India were already given a gin ration, why not add a little of that too? Low and behold, a cocktail was born...God save the Queen.
